Role: Strategic Advisor & Stakeholder Liaison
Organisation: Rugby WA (in partnership with Tourism WA & Rugby Australia)
The successful bid to host the HSBC SVNS (Sevens) World Series in Perth marked a historic milestone for Western Australia, placing Perth on the global rugby map. I played a key advisory role supporting the strategic alignment and regional readiness of Rugby WA’s high-performance and community systems as part of the broader bid effort led by Rugby Australia and Tourism WA.
🔹 My Contributions:
Collaborated closely with Tourism WA, Rugby Australia, and local stakeholders to ensure WA’s rugby ecosystem was primed for a global tournament of this scale.
Provided strategic input into the community engagement and participation legacy components of the bid, ensuring the tournament would deliver long-term growth.
Conducted impact mapping of regional school and club engagement opportunities in alignment with the Sevens format.
Helped shape the pitch narrative, highlighting WA’s proven capacity to host international events and its unique time zone advantage for global broadcast reach.
🔹 Strategic Outcomes:
Perth successfully secured the hosting rights for HSBC SVNS Perth, joining other global host cities including Dubai, Cape Town, Los Angeles, and Singapore.
WA rugby experienced a major uplift in visibility, corporate partnership potential, and fan engagement across the tournament window.
Established a platform for rugby sevens integration across junior, school, and modified formats in WA—linking elite events with grassroots participation.
🔹 Legacy Focus:
Aligned the Sevens event with the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games build-up, embedding Olympic movement narratives into local strategy.
Helped develop engagement frameworks for schools, volunteers, and multicultural communities to interact with the Sevens experience.
Supported creation of a 'Festival of Rugby' model alongside the event, showcasing All Abilities Rugby, Women's Sevens, and junior carnivals.
